So what do our athletes believe is the best source of protein? Most believe that the best available source of protein at SCU is chicken. This comes in a variety of presentations in Benson Memorial Center: breaded, baked, fried, or grilled.

However, we noticed that many students are not entirely sure why chicken is the best, saying they heard from a friend or coach that it was the best option. Shouldn't athletes, especially, be more knowledgeable about what goes into their bodies?

Many students also had limited information about what alternative protein sources were available to them on campus.

The Interviews

Among athletes, it is well known that protein is needed to build and repair muscle tissues. However, there is a common misconception that the best sources of protein are meat. In reality, many plant-based products can have just as much protein as meat-based sources and can contain many other essential vitamins and minerals.

Our mission is to educate Santa Clara University athletes by raising public awareness about facts regarding different protein sources. Our main interested is to explain why eating chicken after a workout is not the best possible solution. We want to educate you about the benefits of using vegetable based protein sources. We are inspired to educate others on how various types of protein available to athletes at SCU affect the environment, our wallets, our long term health, and our gains in the gym.

PROTEIN. PROTEIN. PROTEIN.
